Exclusive Dandy Riots Interview

BlackSugar Music Online
Artist Interview: Dandy Riots

This week, we catch up with one of our rising stars, Dandy Riots. In this exclusive interview, we're given a rare insight into how Dandy Riots began and the thought process behind his incredible tracks.

Can you give us five words that best describe what Dandy Riots is about?

"bass, visuals, performance, fashion and experience."

How did you get started with the Dandy Riots project

"I started running an art and music club night called COME. I needed a DJ and thought I would give it a go. I then started to get more gigs and decided to start making music alongside the visuals and DJ set."

What do you want to achieve with your next releases?

"I want to make an interactive video EP and work with other musicians and visual artists."

What do you look for when remixing other artists?

"Usually I like a good vocal to play about with. It helps if the original track is upbeat but it can make the remix more intense if there's a contrast in between downbeat vocals and energetic drops. I tend to remix the video of the original too."

What do you think of the music produced by other Black Sugar artists?

"Young Fathers are some of the most talented boys I know. They are forward thinking and have one of the best live shows of an underground band that I have experienced. Any Colour Black put on a good show too. Their tracks have great sex appeal about them."

What can the fans expect from you live?

"I start my shows with a theatrical performance that coincides with the music and visuals. Throughout the set I try to squeeze every bit of energy out of the crowd by playing the heaviest and newest tracks from lesser known producers along with my own tracks."

What's next for Dandy Riots?

I've got my debut EP coming out on Black Sugar Records and will be launching a clothing line soon. My next gig is Zzzap! at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh during Fresher's week.

There you have it. Catch Dandy Riots live with labelmates Young Fathers on September 13th at the liquid Rooms. If you want to hear some music from Dandy Riots you can check him out here on soundcloud:
